UltraHeroix spotlight: The Black Wasp

Hey all,
It's been awhile but we are back and I would like to spotlight our newest superheroine, the Black Wasp. I would like to star with her back story.
The Black Wasp in her civilian life is an investigative blogger. She reports on crime and corruption in her small city and does someting about it in her superheroine persona. She has developed allies in the police department who has become frustrated with corruption and feed her info and back up when she needs it. She is also supported by her neighbors and supporters of her website by providing funding and tech support for her superheroine activities. Although she has no super-powers, she uses her intelligence and fighting skills to make a difference in her city. Although still a rookie, she has become a force to be reckoned with.

I was inspired by the character Black Canary and the superheroine show "Black Scorpion".

In her debut story, we have Black Wasp feeling confident, even a bit cocky from her victories fighting crime and petty criminals. Unfortunatley, she runs up against her first super villain, Deadeye! This veteran mercenary pulls no punches on the rookie superheroine as he pummels, captures and even shoots the Black Wasp. It might be a short career for the superheroine so be sure to check out her adventure at www.Ultraheroix.com

Movie Review- "Thor: Ragnorok"

Hi folks,
We are back with a quick movie review for "Thor: Ragnorok". Let's start off with me saying that I love this movie. For an incredibly dark movie it was quite funny and entertaining. We saw the deaths of many well known characters and the introduction of new ones including the awesome "Valkrie"!

We start the movie with an awesome battle with Thor that shows his strength and powers to demonstrate what a powerhouse he is. Then before you know it we are thrusted into the main storyline as a well known character passes on and we are introduced to the main villainess "Hela".
Hela is the most powerful villain we have encountered yet and she owns every scene she is in. Thor is banished and on his quest back he teams up with the Hulk, Valkrie and a few others to try and put an end to villainess's conquest to rule the universe.

The breakout character for me was Valkrie, played by Tessa Thompson. She was a very strong character physically and personality wise that even rivals Thor himself. I look forward to seeing more of her in the Marvel Universe. Tessa Thompson did an awesome job. She would make a great Lady Ultra for the UltraHeroix universe.

This  movie is pretty well contained that you don't necessarily need to see the other movies to know what is going on but if you have then you see a lot of cameos and easter eggs that will make you jaw drop. The storyline, music and character were very well played out and came together nicely. In a nutshell this was a really fun movie and definitely one of the best of 2017.

Movie Review- Wonder Woman (2017)

Hey folks, we're back! This time to do a review on Gal Gadot's "Wonder Woman" movie. I have to say right away that this is currently the best superheroine mainstream movie! Patty Jenkins did an excellent job as director in that she balanced a great story with awesome action. The look and feel of the movie feels like it comes right of the Comic book.

The story is simple but effective as basically an origin movie that takes place mostly during the World War 1 period. We see Wonder Woman grow up, recieve training, discovering her powers and venturing into "Man's world" to save it from the God of war, Ares. It was incredible to see the Amazons as strong and sexy as they fight and dominate the Nazis that invade their island.

Gal Gadot did an awesome job as Diana Princ
e, Wonder Woman. She came off as strong and charming and you really root for her in the movie. We also have Chris Pine as Steve Trevor, the love interest for Diana. He was really good and plays off well with Gadot as they show great chemistry together. One of my favorite characters was played by Robin Wright. She was Diana's aunt and trainer as she prepared her for possible dangers.

I have to say this was an awesome movie and I would put it in the top 10 if best super hero movies and best in super heroine movies. I can only look forward to the sequel and it looks like we'll get one after seeing the success of this one. We can see this Wonder Woman next in "Justice League" later in 2017.

Fan film: "Green Goblin's Last Stand"

Hi all, for this edition I wanted to share something a little different and focus on one of my inspirations for producing my super heroine stories. The fan film I'm talking about is a spiderman film called "The Green Goblin's Last Stand". What made this production so special is what was to be made in such a small to non-existent budget  (only $400) but with a ton of passion.

This was created by Dan Poole in 1992, before the first Spider-man movie in the early 2000's.
The was his passion project since he was a huge Spiderman fan and he saw this as an opportunity to get into the film-production business as an actor/stunt-man. In fact in this fan-film he plays as Peter Parker/Spider-Man and he did all of his own stunts. The highlight os this video is seeing him doing the crazy but awesome stunts from swinging from buildings on  rope to diving into boxes and debris. The prop-making is also very interesting and creative. The storyline is based on the classic "Death of Gwen Stacy" storyline that pits Spiderman against his most dangerous arch-nemesis, Green Goblin in their most famous battle. Based on the budget constraints and location limitations, Dan Poole had to modify the storyline to be able to shoot and it works out great.

It's also cool to see how he used the environment and self-made props in this. It did give me a couple of ideas for my own productions. It should be noted that this was made in the early 1990's before Hi-definition cameras and the lighting is poor and the acting is a bit cheesy, campy and over the top but this kinda added to the charm of this video. It should also be known that this was one of the first fan-films to truly become one of the most popular in the fan-film genre and should be considered a  must see. it is incredible to see how far amateur film-making has come along since then. But something this has that others lack is that this has a lot of heart and there are a lot of tips that new, self-made film-makers can learn from.

I first this fan-film when I bought it at a comic book convention as a DVD back in 2004 and it has been one of my favorite DVD's of all time. It also had a documentary of the story behind the production and it was very enlightening and informative. Not only did I see the fan film but the hard work  and sacrifice that Dan Poole did and the "out of the box" thinking needed to create something special like this. As I've said the documentary was very helpful and I suggest anyone interested in film-making to check out the fan-film and documentary.

Today, you wouldn't be able to get the DVD anywhere since there are a lot copyright issues but fortunately both the film and documentary can be seen on Youtube. I suggest checking both out if you're a comic fan, aspiring film-maker and/or just a fan of fun stuff.

Jungle Heroines

Seeing as we're in the middle of Summer I figured we'll focus on a special breed of heroines and that would be heroines of the jungle.  For awhile these ladies rival the popularity of their super heroine peers and in  a lot of cases they still do.

So let's focus on some of the more popular Jungle heroines. Everyone knows of "Jane" Tarzan's wife. Also known as Jane of the Jungle. She is
probably the most famous of the jungle heroines.

SHEENA: Queen of the Jungle. Sheena's origin is quite simple. She was an orphan who lived in the jungle and learned to communicate with animals. Her character was created in 1938. She had many comic book series, a movie and a television from 2000-2002.
I might do a movie review of the Sheena movie in the future but to give you an idea of it's background; It was produced in 1984 and starred Tanya Roberts. It wasn't a huge hit but manage to build up a cult following. In the future we might yet to see a new version in some form but for now we would most likely see her in the comic book form.

The next jungle heroine is Nyoka, The Jungle girl. She was created in 1941 and she was in a few movie serials during that time.

Nyoka's origin is that her family settled in Africa to treat and heal the natives, although it also seems Cult Retro" made some newer adventures which can be seen at nightveilmedia.com .
like it was a way to get away from a criminal affair that her family was wrapped up in. As she grew up into a young woman she became a protector of the jungle and it's inhabitants. In her many
adventures she often ends up in peril and cliffhangers, part of the fun was seeing how she escaped from these situations.

These are just a few of the jungle heroines, others include Marvel Comics, Shanna the She-Devil. Wife Of Ka-Zaar nd they both defend the Savage Land. A hidden world in the Antartic where prehistoric creatures and mutants live.

Television Review, "Supergirl" TV show

It's been worth the wait but it looks like we have a worthy super heroine television show. So far, Supergirl has been very impressive in how well it is staying in it's comic book roots. This show started in the Fall of 2015 and we are now enjoying the second half of the season in 2016.

The main character is played by Melissa Benoist, and she does an excellent job in the role as Supergirl. She portrays the heroine as inexperienced with something to prove early on in the season but as time goes on she becomes more self confident in her training with her powers and as she fights super villains.

The villains has been pretty good so far as we see a good variety from criminal masterminds to super powered aliens. I have to admit that the first half of the season had better fight scenes that was easier to see. In the second half of the season, the fights appear to be shorter and at night so it's not as easy to see or enjoy. Which leads me to the special effects, which has mostly been good. There has been a fe instances when things looked a bit subpar but the majority like the flight scenes and fight scenes looked great, which show that we've come along way for special effect since the 1980's and the original "Supergirl" movie.

The cast has been very good. Calista Flockhart has been great as Cat Grant, Kara's (Supergirl's secret identity) boss. She has been tough but showed a few signs of a soft heart. The rest of the cast has been strong. The story lines has been pretty easy to follow as we've seen mostly a new villain a week but there has been a few overarching story lines featuring evil krytonians and Maxwell Lord (the show's version of Lex Luthor).

So far, my favorite episode has been the pilot episode but there is enough for me and hopefully fans to keep coming back. I would only hope that they keep the current costume, which is great, they do better fight scenes and have more peril as they go on.

UltraHeroix.com spotlight and Return of Lady Ultra...

Lady Ultra from UltraHeroix.com

Hi all, This posting will serve a duel purpose. To spotlight our flagship character, Lady Ultra and her latest story lines .

Lady Ultra from UltraHeroix.com
Lady Ultra has always been my oldest and favorite creation, which is why she's always been the main character for my stories. I created her way back in 2001 while I was taking a web design course and one of our assignments was to create a website on anything that interested us. At that time, I was (and still is) a comic book fan but I wanted to make my site more unique. At that time I was a big fan of Sooperhero.com and their photo-stories of super heroines in peril so I decided to create my own character that I could write and draw about and "Lady Ultra" was born. She was the focus for my first website, The Adventures of Lady Ultra and Co. She was inspired by supergirl with a few variations. She was not an alien and the origin of her powers were left ambiguous. I also made it a point to giver her an African-American background. There are so few racially diverse characters out there, especially super heroines that I wanted to make her even more unique.

Lady Ultra from UltraHeroix.com
I had so much fun drawing and updating the site, which filled with cosplay of comic book and anime super heroines that I updated almost weekly for years. Then almost ten years later I had the opportunity to create another website; UltraHeroix.com to showcase my own video stories and it was a no-brainer that my flagship character would be Lady Ultra and she starred in the first few stories before I branched into other characters.

So who is Lady Ultra?
I created an origin but it will be tweaked and re-vamped as we move on, especially when I start plans of doing a full movie which should be sooner than later.

Her real name is Monica Chase and lives and based out of the fictional city called "Sol City". As of right now, her civilian life will be pretty flexible because her main focus and passion is being Lady Ultra and everything else comes second. The source of her powers are a mystery even to her. One day she just found out she had powers and she believes she was given them in a spiritual sense for a purpose  to do good in the world.  She is a natural leader and inspires the other super heroines in her world.

She has super strength, invulnerability, flight and the ability to shoot energy from her hands. Her weakness is the if she uses her energy projection too much it weakens her. She is also at times over-confident which causes her to under-estimate her enemies.

So where is she now in her current storyline?
The last few videos, she was brainwashed into serving a criminal organization called C.L.A.S.H as "Dark Embrace" by their leader Domintia and became the villainess, Dark Ultra. She was instrumental in their growth of

power as she defeated her fellow allies/super heroines. She was recently brought back to her senses when she was rescued by Crimson Cat and both heroines defeated Domintia and crippled C.L.A.S.H. Now she is focusing her energies in bringing in the former leaders of C.L.A.S.H to make sure the organization stays dead and they answer for their crimes.

In "The Return of Lady Ultra", Lady Ultra is back to her old self and wearing her traditional costume. Her first target is one of CLASH most powerful members, Death Punch. The villainess has taken over a gang after defeating the super heroine of their city "Nightfox".

In this one video, Lady Ultra fights a villain that rival her in strength but surpasses her in ruthlessness.

So, where will we go now with Lady Ultra?

She will be facing a major old foe from the past for and episode or two and then encounter a major evil force to be reckoned with. This particular villain is brand new and so powerful, Lady Ultra must not only team up with other heroines to try and save the day but to just survive this new foe. During this storyline, I will have her suffer her most brutal defeat and her slow rise from the pit to overcome this threat.

Lady Ultra has always been my pride and joy and she has been a favorite of our fans too. I've been lucky to work with great actresses that was able to bring her to life and I look forward to where her stories will take her and I'm sure you will too.
Here are a few samples of Lady Ultra videos that can be found at Ultraheroix.com :

My review on "X-Men:Days of Future Past"...

Wow! Simply wow! I saw the latest X-Men movie on memorial day and although I was eager to see it, I was still a little wary on what to expect due to the teasers and fanboy rants on other forums. But now I can honestly say that this concerns were not necessary. XDOFP is possibly the best X-Men movie yet and arguably the best comic movie of the year. Yep, even better than Captain America:Winter Soldier.

X-Men:DOFP
First off, I've read the original comic book story and it is a definite classic story that all comic fans should read. Although this movie is inspired by that storyline, there are notable differences that serves the movie tone better and I do like the unpredictability this causes. The main difference which isn't really a spoiler is that it's Wolverine that is sent back in time and not Kitty Pryde although she does play a big role in this movie.

So far, If you didn't hear it in the grapevine yet is that just about everyone who has seen this movie is raving about it. We have old characters working side by side with the new class characters along with brand new characters to the series. A lot of concerns going into this film is that this another Wolverine dominated story and to be honest, he does have a big role but he takes a back seat to Professor X, Magneto and even Mystique in this story. James McCavoy and Michael Fassbender literally becomes their characters and you feel their pain and frustration. Those two truly carry the movie but Patrick Stewart and Ian Mckellan does their share of work and are fun to watch. It almost feels like they are passing the torch to their younger counter-parts. Jennifer Lawrence does a a fantastic job as Mystique to the point that you forget about the Rebecca Romain version. Peter Dinklage does a great job as Bolivar Trask, the creator of the Sentinels and reason the human race will become extinct. Although he is supposed to be a villain he doesn't come off as truly evil, which is a cool thing.  Hugh Jackman is Wolverine, Nuff said!

Ok, I have to say more about his performance...Hugh Jackman does a phenomenal job as Wolverine and you can see why he is the backbone to the X-Men franchise. He knows when to carry a scene and when to back off and let others shine and the script lets him do this very well. Another notable mention is Quicksilver, played by Evan Peters. Before this movie came out there was a huge outrage over this character when we saw a picture of him and folks already had the opinion that this would hurt the movie and even I had doubts. But, I am happy to say we were all wrong cause this character was awesome! Quicksilver had possibly the most memorable scenes and the performance was fun and exciting. It's kind of ironic in the character most people despised is now the one you'll want to see more of.

In closing, the story itself is pretty simple to follow with some cool twists and the payoff at the end is very satisfying as you see some familiar faces making a return. I'm not going to give any spoilers but lets just say that things they we had a problem with in the series, kinda gets fixed. I would highly recommend seeing this movie and not just stop there but get the blue ray/dvd when it becomes available because you'll want to see it again multiple times!
